Yakubu Dati (born 22 May ) is a Nigerian politician who recently served as commissioner for lands, survey and town planning in Nigeria's north central Plateau State.[1][2]

A member of the All Progressives Congress, Dati held the position of commissioner of lands, survey & town planning in Plateau State from to [3][4] Prior to this, he served as commissioner for information and communications from to [5][6] Notably, he also served as commissioner for information and strategy from to ,[7] and as commissioner for youth and sports from to [8]

Dati's experience in the Nigerian government includes a role as a spokesperson[9] for the Airports Authority within the federal government.

From to , he oversaw communications strategies for all agencies under the Ministry of Aviation. Additionally, from to , he served as a special assistant on media and political affairs to the minister of state for commerce and industry.

Early life and career

Dati was born in Tunkus, Plateau State, a state located in Nigeria’s north-central and regarded at the twelfth-largest state.

He was born to a devout Christian parents and community leaders. He had his primary, secondary, and tertiary education in the historic city of Jos, where he earned a Bachelor degree in Theater Arts from the University of Jos in He later earned a master’s degree in international law and diplomacy. Yakubu holds a diploma in Airport Operations.

Turning to elective politics, he was elected as executive chairman, Mikang Local Government Council in Plateau State from to , after he ran for office.

Dati also attended leadership courses on managing and leading strategic change by attendances at various summits and college classrooms.

Professional Accomplishments

With an academic background in International Law and Diplomacy, Dati has helped in policy drafting process and developed innovative solutions that addressed the needs of diverse stakeholders.

During his tenure as a commissioner for land, survey and town planning, Dati introduced policies that protected landowners from losing their lands. He also automated Plateau Land Administration and Geographically Information System (PLAGIS), which curbed revenue losses to the government.[12]

He has utilized traditional and digital platforms to disseminate information for public engagement on government issues.

In his most recent efforts to ensure his political party, the All Progressives Congress wins the presidential elections, he played a pivotal role as a chief of staff [19][20]to the Director General of the All Peoples Congress Presidential Campaign, former Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong.
