Eduardo Hughes Galeano (3 September – 13 April ) was a Uruguayan journalist, writer and novelist.

His best-known works are Las venas abiertas de América Latina (Open Veins of Latin America, ) and Memoria del fuego (Memory of Fire Trilogy, –6).

Galeano died in Montevideo, Uruguay from lung cancer, aged "[1][2]
